Overview

The project undertaken by WoDYEO aimed at “Protecting Life and Rights of Women with Disabilities During the COVID-19 Global Pandemic in Sierra Leone.” The initiative focused on sensitization, awareness, and support for women and girls with disabilities in the face of the pandemic. This report outlines the activities undertaken, achievements, challenges faced, and the impact on the targeted beneficiaries.


1. Project Implementation:

  • The project successfully commenced in July 2020 and concluded in August 2020.
  • The organization conducted a thorough sensitization program, reaching at least 200 women and girls with disabilities in the Western Area (Urban and Rural).
  • Collaboration with partners such as the German Leprosy/TB Relief Association (GLRA), the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), and the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI) enhanced the project’s effectiveness.

2. Achievements:

  • Massive sensitization and awareness efforts resulted in increased knowledge about COVID-19 and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) issues.
  • Successful distribution of COVID-19 preventive materials, SGBV posters, and hygiene kits to beneficiaries.
  • Establishment of new partnerships, particularly with GLRA, contributing to a broader impact.

3. Challenges:

  • The report does not highlight specific challenges encountered during the project implementation.

4. Gender Equality and Environmental Considerations:

  • The project actively promoted gender equality by ensuring the leadership and involvement of women with disabilities in the implementation process.
  • Environmental friendliness was maintained through electronic presentations, limited paper usage, and accessible locations for sensitizations.

5. Future Plans:

  • WoDYEO plans to focus on access to education for women and girls with disabilities in the coming years, conducting surveys, establishing partnerships, and making education facilities more accessible.

6. Project Team:

  • Ramatu Princess Kanu (Female, Polio) served as the project coordinator, overseeing all activities.
  • Kadiatu .M. Conteh (Female, Hearing Impaired) managed financial aspects, including preparing requests and financial reports.

PART 2: FINANCIAL REPORT

The financial report, prepared by Kadiatu .M. Conteh, includes details of expenses categorized according to the budget in the project agreement. The original receipts and vouchers have been attached to the report.


CONCLUSION:

WoDYEO has successfully implemented the project, achieving its objectives and making a significant impact on women and girls with disabilities in Sierra Leone. The collaboration with various stakeholders, adherence to gender equality principles, and environmentally friendly practices have contributed to the project’s success.


RECOMMENDATION:

This final report is submitted to ABILIS for approval, and the necessary documents have been provided for verification. WoDYEO expresses gratitude to ABILIS and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland for their support in realizing this impactful initiative.
